As a result of the emigration and the displacement process of Kurds during the last 50 years, more than two million Kurds live in the Diaspora, particularly in Western European countries.

Political persecution in their homelands forced most Kurdish politicians, intellectuals, filmmakers and visual-artists to go into exile. This process triggered a renaissance of the Kurdish language, literature and music, especially in Sweden and the Federal Republic of Germany.
